INTERSHIPS

It is a great way to gain real life experience with an artist and get credit for college.
I am giving the opportunity to take a college student or high schooler to come and learn my trade in my art studio and gallery, L’Atelier, sometimes in clients home and businesses.
It will entail learning faux finishes, fine art painting skills, silks screening fabric, sewing, costume jewelry making, leather work, some computer work and office work. You will learn how to interact with clients and some good lessons in the interior design and construction world.

I interned with Valentine Viannay at L’Atelier for four weeks at the end of 2016, during the busy holiday season, earning course credit from my college. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Valentine and was surprised by how much I learned in such a short but intense period of time. I accrued many technical skills such as silk screening, sewing, painting, faux finishes and plaster work. Many times we were working toward a deadline and Valentine is very detail oriented so our time working together was focused and challenging. Valentine’s approach to teaching me technical skills was very helpful. She would show me how to do something once and then give me space to make my own mistakes and develop confidence in my own abilities. She is detail oriented so you have to have the patience and willingness to develop your technical skills.
I also observed and learned invaluable business skills from Valentine: how to interact successfully with clients, be proactive and self-advocating, network assertively, and prioritize time and tasks. Valentine is warm and gregarious and balances this with confidence and determination in her work, both her craft and her business sense.
